Last Letters and Conscious Dying

Since my last post…., Trong and I decided that The Last Letter Writer was better suited in an “art” context than in a film context. As such, we submitted it to the Black Mountain College Re-Happening and it was selected for inclusion this past spring. The reception to it was overwhelming. We also included an installation of vintage blank postcards, pre-stamped and with rubber stamped text on the edge that says, “Written by a human.” People were engaged with the film and the opportunity to write postcards. I mailed out almost a hundred. We are now considering other exhibition/gallery possibilities.

Our subject Ngo, passed away a few months ago. So, the last letter writer is gone. I feel grateful to have been able to create something about him and the art of handwriting. May we never lose our ability to do that.

On the subject of dying, I co-produced a documentary about conscious dying that is about to make the festival rounds. Here is the website and trailer for The Last Ecstatic days.
